Dissertation Title: The impact of capital structure on firm financial performance -- a case study of listed companies in different industries in the UK
Research Question:
Do different British industries have similar capital structures?
What are the determinants of the capital structure of different industries?
What kind of capital structure also applies to the future financial performance of the enterprise?
Is there a positive correlation between capital structure and financial performance?
Methodology and Data:
Empirical Models and the data are from UK-listed companies on the London Stock Exchange between 2010 and 2019. These companies are from the ten main industrial sectors of the British economy, including Basic Resources, Energy, Financials, Food Beverage and Tobacco, Industrial Goods and Services, Media, Real Estate, Retail, Technology, Telecommunications.
Dependent variable: return on assets (ROA), return on investment (ROE), earnings per share (EPS) and Tobin's Q (TQ)
Independent variables: debt-to-assets ratio (LEV), long-term debt to assets ratio (LTD) and short-term debt to assets ratio (LTD), firm size and firm's growth are selected as control variables.
