The article should be 2000 words (not including references)
Guidance
1. The first paragraph/introduction should provide a summary of the main issuesof the debate topic. This should be the main focus of the article.
2. The next sections should discuss the key points raised in the introduction.
a. You should use direct quotes from the debate recordings (this is only one source of information)
b. You must undertake additional research and fact checkall key points and conclusions
3. You should provide your own view on the issues raised, with justifications for your perspectives.
4. Your conclusion should include whether you are in favour or against the motion, with a rationale for your conclusions.
Essential Additional Research
5. You will need to provide referencesto back-up your arguments. Articles with no additional sources are unlikely to attain a good pass. You must ensure that you are confident of the validity of those sources. Beware opinion pieces that are not based on evidencei.e from Newspapers, blogs etc.
Format requirements:
1. Length: 2000 words maximum. Penalties will be applied for work more than 10% under or over the word count.
2. Font 12, Arial, 1.5 line spacing
3. Header/Footer - Please do not put your name in the document or anonymous marking will not be possible
4. Page number at the bottom centre.
5. Submit through Turnitin only, no hard copy
Dos:
1. Show awareness of historicity, complexity and multiplicity of issues;
2. Be logical, structured, and reflective;
3. Keep an appropriate balance between introduction, main body & conclusion;
4. Draw upon a variety of sources in addition to the debate, including academic journals, books, government reports and news stories;
5. Language should be objective, concise, accurate and to the point;
6. Good spelling, grammar and no typos;
7. Start with a basic draft and go through a few rounds of revision;
8. Do read each other's essays and make suggestions for improvement.
Donts:
1. Don't present unnecessary lists of facts that are not relevant to the argument;
2. Don't wait until the last minute to start writing;
3. Don't try to write the perfect article at your first attempt.
