A mixture of methanol and water is to be separated in a flash drum operating at a pressure of 1atm. The feed rate is 25 kmoles/hr.

a)The feed contains 35 mol% methanol and 65 mol% of the feed is to be vaporized [V/F=0.65]. Find the compositions and flow rates of the vapor and liquid products. Estimate the temperatures via a linear interpolation for both vapor and liquid products.

b) The feed contains 35 mol% methanol and the product temperatures are both 78 ºC. Find the compositions of the liquid and vapor products and the fraction of the feed that is vaporized (V/F).

c) If we wish to obtain a vapor product with at least 75 mol% meethanol and want to have 30% of the feed vaporized [V/F=0.3], determine the required feed composition.
