A thermal power station operates on the following cycle . Water is pumped into a boiler where it is converted to high pressure , hightemperature steam turbine that addition from the combustion of coal . the steam is expanded in a steam turbine is condensed back to water in a condenser by rejecting heat before it is pumped back to the boiler .

a) Identify the signs of the heat and work transfer interaction occurring during the cycle , taking the water/steam as the system ?

b) If 5000 MW of thermal energy are added to the water in the boiler , 3500 MW are rejected in the condenser , and the additional heat losses from the cycle are 500 MW , what is the net power plant ? what is the thermal efficiency of the power plant ?
