Question: Rewrite Slaves used a number of strategies to resist slavery to enable them to revolt and sustain their own families. One of the main strategies used by slaves to resist slavery was through slave rebellions. The Nat Turner's Rebellion and the Stono Rebellion stand out as one of the most famous revolts mounted by the slaves. Successful slave revolts such as the Saint-Domingue further inspired the slaves to pursue the strategy to gain independence.Running away was another strategy that was employed by the slaves in their efforts to sustain their independence and culture. Slaves who run away would often make permanent escapes or form maroon communities in nearby swamps or forests.Some forms of resistance such as feigning illness and breaking of tools were also common with slaves.
The breakage of tools would often cause a stop in work in the plantations.The southern Whites often used paternalism to justify slavery by stipulating that slavery was in the best interests of the slaves, and as the slaves learn more about the ideology, they used it to their advantage. The slaves exploited the weaknesses of the ideology to gain autonomy and freedom as well as engage in acts of resistance. An example
