Objective: To develop and evaluate an intervention plan that addresses a child's language development.
Scenario:
Four-year-old Jacy lives in a small northern Arizona town with his grandparents and two younger siblings. His grandparents, who speak only Navajo, live on a fixed income and have problems that limit their mobility. Jacy's grandmother enrolled him in the Head Start program where you teach. You attempt to speak with Jacy throughout the day but note that he doesn't always respond when addressed, seldom answers your questions, and is often inattentive in group settings.
1. Complete the first step of your plan by identifying which of Jacy's behaviors should concern you, and briefly describe how they may be affecting his development.
2. Be sure to read the SELF-EVALUATION section below to guide your thinking. Write self-evaluation after you have completed your plan.
3. Review the assessment rubric to see how your assignment and self-evaluation will be graded.
SELF-EVALUATION:
1. For each item in your plan:
a. Explain how this item addresses the issues in the scenario.
b. Give evidence from the chapter supporting this item (with citations).
2. Describe and justify how plan would improve teaching and learning in the scenario.
