Notably, the security strategy includes a long list of defense objectives. The intelligence requirements listed support the most important objective of defending the homeland from attack. By identifying and countering the threats in the MENA region, we can preserve peace through strength. Identifying threats from al-Qaeda in this region and abroad helps deter adversaries from aggression against our vital interests. Future attacks are likely to target our assets, and by being aware of such, we can assist in protecting the homeland, the American people, and the American way of life (Mattis, 2018).
