In Mary's previous job she did not get paid regularly. Her salary was almost never on time and when she got paid it often was just part of what she and her management had agreed on. Not knowing when she would get paid or even how much was worrying her because she was never sure if she could pay her rent the next month. The company struggled financially, mainly because there were no new projects coming in. Being faced with this situation every day let Mary believe that this is normal. Her motivation to go to work, however, was basically not existent.
