Role Play:
You and your colleagues are working for a local staffing business, providing temporary staff to local business as required. Currently, the business in run mostly by phone, with employers calling in daily to inform of staffing requirements, and then you and your colleagues check the availability schedule and then call the available temporary staff to offer them the position.
The business owner has called a staff innovation meeting, and you will all need to attend. The owner has asked you all to bring at least one idea for workplace innovation to the meeting.
Before attending the meeting, you will need to gather and review all the relevant information you will require to present your idea.
During the meeting, you will each present your idea for improvement, and each idea will be discussed to identify positive impacts, challenges, and reasons why and why not this improvement is valid.
Once the group has discussed each of the ideas, together you will need to select at least one to implement. As a group, you will need to discuss and develop a procedure to implement the innovation(s), and also discuss how to review the implementation of the innovation.
During this assessment, you must be observed:
- Identifying ideas for improvements by:
- Identifying your own role in workplace innovation
- Identifying opportunities for improvement within your own area of work
- Using information from a range of sources including other people, to review and select ideas to put forward for implementation. During this step, you will need to:
- Identify people who could provide input into ideas for improvements
- Seek feedback on improvement of ideas
- Discuss and develop options and possible variations
- Review and select ideas for follow up based on feedback and further review
- Communicating your ideas and seeking input from others in order to identify how the ideas could be implemented. To effectively do this you will need to:
- Select the appropriate people to present ideas to
- Select the best way of approaching people to begin sharing ideas
- Identify and articulate issues and practical processes for implementing proposed ideas
- Implementing routine changes by:
- Acting to implement routine changes, ensuring that you do so:
- In consultation with others
- Within scope of own responsibility
- Working with others
- Presenting ideas and practical suggestions about how improvements could be made to the people you are working with
