Prepare a written essay on your topic. Essays should 1,400 words (approx. 3 and 1/2 pages to 4 pages) of text.

Your essay should be informative, exhibiting knowledge about the legal issue surrounding the topic and synthesizing the information learned. Your essay should analyze an interest party and donations given to your Texas House Representative.

Identify a law passed and analyze how that law impacts that specific interest group. You should then summarize your findings, with support for conclusions establishing whether your representative's decision to vote/sponsor that law adequately represents and benefits you and your community.

The topic below is your essay assignment:

1) Identify your Texas state representative, their party and provide a brief summary about your representative.

2) Identify how much money your representative has raised in campaign contributions overall. List a few interest group donors who have contributed to your representative's campaign.

3) Connect one interest donor with a law that your representative has voted for and/or sponsored.

a) Identify the interest group and summarize what they do and stand for.

b) Identify and summarize the law (ex: HB257)

c) Did your representative vote for or sponsor the law?

d) In your opinion, how does that specific law benefit that special interest donor?

4) In your opinion, does that law adequately represent the needs/wants of your community? Does the representative adequately represent you? Why or why not?
