Task Summary
As a group, you are required to research a case study and write a 2500 words report. In this group exercise you will evaluate the role of the World Bank in the adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT).
Context
Information technology and systems are central to any organisation to stay competitive in a modern business environment. The use and deployment of IT/IS allows an organisation to remain ahead of the competition and ensure new services and products are provided to their cliental. Equally, additional complexity is provided through the rapidly developing new technology. The organisation as an enterprise has several moral, ethical and legal obligations regarding privacy and the security of information as well as the use of technology to develop solutions. The purpose of this group report is to engage you in building knowledge of how organisations identify, build and deploy various technology over time to remain competitive.
Task Instructions
1. For this assessment, you are to work as a group of consultants to the World Bank.
2. The World Bank is looking for new projects to invest in, with focus on IoT technologies. Please read the case study brief provided. It outlines the findings of the Internet of Things report published by the World Bank in 2017.
3. Choose one of the findings listed in the case study brief document. Then, choose an industry or a business to investigate how the World Bank can use the IoT to support project work.
4. Write a 2500 words report on the chosen topic and the industry/ or the business. Your report should address the following areas:
a) Choose a specific finding from the IoT report to investigate.
b) Identify a suitable industry/business and research their use of IoT technology in the context of a)
c) Identify the reason for the selection and why there is value in the case to the World Bank
d) Using the finding from the IoT report, develop a set of insights for the case and how IoT technologies can be used
e) Identify various insights you can observe from the case and the objectives of the industry/ business with reference to their technology strategy
f) Identify how this case can be used to create a new project for the World Bank Group. How can you use the lessons learned from this case to create a project idea?
g) Provide recommendations to the World Bank as to how your findings can assist in their project work.
5. Structure and Format
• The report is 2500 words and requires an executive summary.
• The report must include a title page with the subject code and name, assignment title, student's name, student numbers and lecturer's name
• An introduction (500 words) which will also serve as your statement of purpose for the report. This means that you will tell the reader what you are going to cover in your report. You will need to inform the reader of:
a. Your area of research and its context (e.g. the findings from IoT report)
b. The key concepts you will be addressing
c. What the reader can expect to find in the body of the report
• The body of the report (1500 words) will need to respond to the specific requirements of the selected case, as per the questions stated above.
• The conclusion (500 words) will summarise any findings and make project recommendations to the World Bank for the future.
• The report should use font Arial or Calibri 11 point, should be line spaced at 1.5 for ease of reading and page numbers on the bottom of each page. If diagrams or tables are used, due attention should be given to pagination to avoid loss of meaning and continuity by unnecessarily splitting information over two pages. Diagrams must carry the appropriate captioning.
