Case Problem Specification, Data Specification, and Analysis -
Objectives -
a. Specify the data needs for each opportunity identified, including its collection, and justify how that data is relevant for the context.
b. Identify and justify the right data analyses that could support decision-making in the context of the opportunity and data needs specified.
c. Perform relevant analyses using the right business analytics (BA) tools.
Part 1 -
A. With your understanding of the data provided (the Seattle building permits data), identify a business/organization that could benefit from the analysis of the data (for example, it could be a window treatment company, a building supplies business, etc.).
B. Identify data on additional variables that would be useful for further analysis beyond the data provided, and why/how the additional data (& analysis) will be useful.
C. Identify variables that can be created from the existing data, if any, and additional variables identified in the previous step, and how/why the additional data (& analysis) will be useful.
D. For the business/organization identified, pose some specific and clear questions that can be answered by the analysis of the data. Also identify how the business/organization will benefit from answering each of the questions through analyses performed.
Part 2 -
To simplify your analysis task, you can get a random sample of 1,000 values of the existing data (you can use randomizer.org for sampling). Create a complete data file with additional variables specified in part B and new variables specified in part C.
Using Tableau, perform the analysis necessary to answer the questions you have posed in part D.
Write a report detailing the answers for each of the questions posed by integrating the results of the analysis into your answers.
Part 3 -
For the work you have done in part 2, replicate this using Excel. If some of the analysis cannot be performed, clearly identify that analysis and state it.
