Life would not be possible without the nourishment of food, and your quality of life depends greatly on which foods you choose to eat. The Critical Assignment in this course is a report either on a nutrient deficiency or to optimally fuel athletic performance. Should you choose to complete a report on a nutrient deficiency, you will identify and research a nutrient deficiency of interest to you, present background information/descriptive analysis of the issue, and provide recommendations for improving the deficiency. If you choose to write a report on nutritionally fueling for optimal athletic performance, you will identify a specific group of athletes (endurance, strenght/resistance training, or some combo of both) and describe their nutritional needs (before, during, and after exercise), and provide detailed recommendations to improve their performance. Each of your supportive submissions (1-3) will keep you on track towards submitting a quality critical assignment. Therefore, I highly suggest looking ahead to the critical assignment requirements, and including them into your supportive submissions, whenever relevant. I will offer feedback on the supportive submissions that should be incorporated into your critical assignment when applicable. Supportive Submission #1 requires you to find a nutrient deficiency problem/athleticgroup of interest to you. This is the first part of your critical assignment. You will continue working on this throughout this semester. For this first part, address the component below:

First, describe nutrient deficiency. Identify the key problems, issues, and the types of macro-micro nutrients lacking in the deficiency. Finally, provide a rationale for choosing it as your topic of interest. (2-3 pages).
