A 59-year-old Caucasian male, Paul has been admitted to the ward with exacerbation of his Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Paul was diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis two (2) years ago. Your assessment on him reveals the following:

  • Productive cough
  • Cyanosis of the finger tips
  • Dyspnoea on exertion

A history reveals that Paul was a cigarette smoker, smoking a packet a day for over 30 years. He frequently has chest infections, especially during the winter months.

He has been admitted to the ward for management of this exacerbation with the aim to discharge him home.
