Assignment - Network Planning and Maintenance Discussion
Discussion - Structural Inequalities
As a leader for change in education, it is vital to understand the sociopolitical landscape of your education context [school or work site]. Within this dynamic landscape, you must identify the barriers to equitable educational opportunities and then provide the leadership necessary to remove these barriers to create a more socially just education system.
The Learning Resources in this module explain a variety of structural barriers that impede learning and educational opportunity for all. Too often, the barriers most negatively affect learners from marginalized sociocultural groups, which include ethnicity, race, gender, ability, religion, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation.
To prepare for this Discussion, review the Learning Resources to identify the various sociocultural groups who are under today's predominant education systems in the United States. Focus on the structural barriers and their effects on the development, learning, and educational opportunities of the sociocultural groups you identified. If you are not connected to the United States, do the same for your country and its peoples.
For this Discussion, identify two or three marginalized sociocultural groups in which you are most interested. Distinguish the effects of educational inequalities on the groups you chose.
