Social media Algorithms has caused an increase in data and privacy lost. Social media algorithm are set based on individuals preferences and things user are likely to consume, to find these preferences, the privacy of individuals are accessed and used by the social media companies, to set algorithms to make a guess on a which products are consumed by individuals who use their platforms. When this occurs, privacy and data can be a concern. This is because social media algorithm are put-in place to help sell products which consumers are likely to consume. When this happens, our privacy and data on things we intent to keep private or information that we have entrusted social media companies to keep, will no longer be in safe hands. just recently, "This year the New York Times investigations revealed that Facebook gave data to a tech giant like Netflix and Spotify to user data including private messages" (Brian, 2018) when social media give our data and privacy away without our knowledge, they do not take into consideration the harm that will caused it users, but rather they focused on the benefit that they will derive from it .
