You are the nurse at a GP clinic today and you are seeing 53 year old Judy Roodie after she has seen the doctor. You note from her file she has been symptomatic for the past 24 hours and has now been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. Her medical history indicates she has Diabetes, other than that, nothing really significant. You are taking some further bloods and Judy appears quietly concerned. During your conversation, Judy expresses to you that she feels embarrassed that as an educated woman (financial advisor), she cannot understand what is going on with her body and why she has been getting UTI's quite regularly in the past 6-12 months.

Question 1: You now need to recall your knowledge of the pathophysiology of a UTI to answer her following queries. Please ensure you are using the correct terminology.

(a) "Why do I feel the need to go to the toilet so often and so urgently?" (2 marks)
(b) "Why does it hurt so much?"

Question 2: There are multiple risk factors that are generally known to increase the chance of having a urinary tract infection. In this case study, Judy has two risk factors (otherthan anatomy and being female). Please identify the two (2) risk factors about Judy that may potentially increase her risk of having a urinary tract infection .
