Practical task
This task requires you to demonstrate that you can work safely as per legislative requirements, site safety policies and procedures, SDSs,
JSEAs/SWMSs, manufacturer instructions and other safety-related site documentation.
You will need to demonstrate your safe work skills on three separate and different occasions. Your assessor will give you the plans, specs, work instructions and other information you need for each job.
As part of the task, you will need to demonstrate safe and correct use of tools, equipment and materials and application of safe work practices. You are required to demonstrate a range of knowledge and skills, including:
• identifying, assessing and reporting hazards and risks to designated personnel
• taking action to control risks as per workplace requirements
• contributing to WHS reports
• identifying hazardous materials and following safe handling procedures as appropriate
• applying appropriate measures to control risks and construction hazards
• using site signage and symbols to immediately secure hazardous materials
• selecting, correctly fitting and using the right PPE for the work to be undertaken
• working with others on site to choose the right tools, equipment and materials for the work to be undertaken
• setting up the correct signs and barricades in the right location/s
• following work instructions (including SDSs, JSEAs, SWMSs) to complete work tasks
• following manufacturer's instructions, Australian Standards and work site regulations in regards to plant and equipment guards
• following site signage and symbols when completing work tasks
• clearing and maintaining work site to ensure site safety
• following environmental management plans and relevant procedures when clearing and maintaining the site.
