Read the following scenario and identify the techniques used by the educator when communicating with the baby.

Talking to Sara

Educator Hanni sits with Sara (3mths) on her lap. Sara is placed so that she is facing Hanni.

 'Hello Sara, how are you today?' Hanni, smiles, and makes eye contact with Sara.  Sara is watching Hanni's face intently.  Before continuing Hanni pauses for a few seconds.

'I think you are very happy today aren't you. You just had a big sleep.' Hanni pauses and smiles at Sara who begins to blow bubbles.

Hanni, changing her tone of voice and using an exaggerated facial expression responds: 'Oh you can blow bubbles. You clever girl!' Hanni again pauses and smiles at Sara.

Sara waves her arms and smiles at Hanni.  'I can see you waving your arms. A big smile for Hanni! You are a happy girl!'.
