CASE REQUIREMENTS

Question 3. Analyze the current system and identify specific weaknesses that must be addressed by a new improved system. As part of your analysis, prepare a data flow diagram and a document flowchart of the current system.

Question 4. Design a new information system for this company. Your solution should include the following items:

Point a. An overview of the primary features of the new system, explaining why this is the best solution for the firm to pursue.

Point b. Data flow diagrams describing the system at the context level, intermediate levels, and detailed levels.

Point c. A systems flowchart of the new information system, showing automated and manual procedures.

Point d. A description of the technology platform for the system.

Point e. A data model of the business process using the entity relationship (ER) diagram approach.

Point f. A list of financial and nonfinancial data attributes for each entity in the ER diagram.

Point g. Four user views, which can be source documents or management reports. At least one view should support the needs of a nonaccounting user.

Point h. The base tables needed to support the views; these should be normalized to 3NF.

Point i. Optional. The physical base tables, queries, and user views that you designed conceptually in the previous step, created using Access or an equivalent RDBMS for PCs.

Point j. A discussion of the appropriate accounting controls for the new system.
