Problem
Question A. What is the poem about? Restate the theme of the poem and identify the speaker of each poem, as you understand it. What is the situation that is described?
Question B. Where is the greatest amount of energy in the poem? Name one to three specific images, uses of voice, or uses of characterization that stand out as particularly effective, powerful, interesting, or surprising. Explain why these images, uses of voice, or characterizations work well in the poem(s).
Question C. Is there any part of the poem that seems unnecessary or unclear? Consider the use of lines, stanzas, and repetition in the poem. Are line breaks and stanza breaks effective? Are all lines and stanzas "pulling their weight" and adding to the theme, voice, and imagery of the poem?
Question D. Is anything missing from any of the poems? What would you add, and why?
Thank You, Pink Fabric
So soft and sweet but worn,
my delicate pink baby blanket is the perfect thing to me.
It been with me from the moment I was born,
and nineteen years later it still resides in my arms each night.
The light pink fabric has been with me throughout my life,
as it holds all the memories and adventures we have gone on.
This special blanket is much more than something that keeps me warm at night,
but it is a friend that knows all my secrets.
Not only does this precious material hold my tear stains from young to old,
but it also contains all the joy and milestones I've hit throughout my years.
This baby blanket contained my dad's hugs before he left this earth,
and that is all contained in this simple pink fabric I wrap around myself when I sleep.
As my baby blanket has seen me at my worst and at my best,
it still accepts me and lets me pour out my heart when I need to.
It has been my best friend from the moment I had my first breath,
and I would pick this ragged simple pink fabric over anything.
From dawn to dusk,
my baby blanket holds me and all we've been through over the years.
I never will be able to thank this fabric enough.
