Assignment:

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to identify the sources of fats in a diet, to become familiar with the suggested guidelines for the intake for different types of fats, and to describe the relationship between fats and body weight.

Instructions

Choose one day of either your food diary or one of the mock food diaries. Enter that entire day's worth of food into the nutritional analysis software. Write a report of the nutritional value of the intake. Use the information plus any additional information, like body weight, height, exercise level, etc., to answer questions about fat consumption.

What is the percent of calories from saturated fat that was consumed?
What are the benefits of eating monounsaturated fats? What is the percent of calories from monounsaturated fat that was consumed?
What are the benefits of eating polyunsaturated fats? What is the percent of calories from polyunsaturated fats that was consumed?
Based off of dietary recommendations for fat (total fat 20-35% of calories, saturated fat less than 7% of calories, monounsaturated fat up to 20% of calories, and polyunsaturated fats up to 10% of calories), what concerns do you have about the fat intake from Questions 2-5 above?

Part 2

Discuss a minimum of 5 specific changes to improve the overall fat intake. Be sure to explain why your changes will improve the fat intake.
