Mrs. Lillian Yellowmeadow is a 62-year-old widow and has 1 daughters who lives on the M'Chigeeng Anishinabek First NationReserve among the tribes of the Anishinaabe people who united by the Ojibwe-speaking First Nation. She works in the localschool as a lunch monitor and assists with janitorial work for the school. Her son died from substance misuse when he 15yrs andher ex-husband no longer lives on the reserve. She proud of her heritage and follows many of the traditions of her people andonly speaks Ojibwe in the home.Lillian lives with her 84yrs old mother, her daughter and two grandchildren that are 6yrs old and 2yrs old. Her daughter wasdiagnosed with depression and does not work. Presently she receives some financial assistance to help with the care of thechildren. Lillian lives in a small home 2-bedroom home which is heated by propane. The window in the bedrooms is broken andboarded to help keep the home heated.Lillian has a history of COPD, hypertension, and osteoarthritis. When asked about her health she states, "I manage and do mybest not to get colds". Lillian attends the health clinic for regular assessments and medication.
Last month she developedpneumonia and required antibiotics and inhalers. Unfortunately, Lillian has experienced frequent flareup of arthritis and complains of pain in her hands and hips. The physician iscautions about prescribing her medication because last year her experienced a gastrointestinal bleed and required a bloodtransfusion. Lillian often expresses to the nurses she is worried about getting sick again. "I need to stay healthy so I can care formy mother and help with my grandchildren". She explains to the clinic nurse that she is worried of not being able to go to work."If I don't work, I don't get paid. I am saving so I can replace the window in my home. Sometimes it gets very cold at night."Lillian seeks care from the Medicine Person and participates in smudging ceremonies.
The Medicine Person recommends Lilliandrink herbal teas made of willow bark and black tea leaves as well as spearmint and rosemary teas. She attends healing drummingceremonies and healing massages.The following are Lillian prescribed medications form the health clinic physician:Wt. 60kg
Diclofenac (Voltaren - recommended dosage is 100-150 mg/day) 50mg/tab BID PRN
Tylenol Arthritis 2 tablets BID PRN
Valsartan 80mg once daily,
Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg once a day
Pantoprazole 40mg once daily
Advair inhaler 2 puffs TID1.
