Problem: A pendulum is attached to an elevator that accelerates upwards in the vertical directionwith uniform acceleration, a.

Required:

Question 1: Identify the real and fictitious forces acting on the pendulum according to an observerin an inertial frame.

Question 2: Identify the real and ficticious forces acting in the pendulum according to an observerriding with it in the accelerated elevator frame.

Question 3: Write the Lagrangian for the pendulum in Cartesian coordinates for an inertial frame.

Question 4: Then do a coordinate transformation to convert to Cartesian coordinates that arestationary in the elevator frame and write the Lagrangian in these coordinates.

Question 5: Next, convert to local polar coordinates in the elevator frame and use this Lagrangian to derive the equation of motion.
