Assignment:

With the candidacy of Hillary Clinton for the US Presidency, discussions ensued about what the role of the President's spouse could potentially be, as up until that point the spouse had always been "the First Lady," and tended to tasks such as social functions at the White House. These discussions provide evidence of the masculinization of formal politics in the US. Yet this is just one of many examples of how politics is masculinized, not only in the US, but across the globe. Locate a news article that provides another example of how formal politics are masculinized and share it with your classmates.

In your discussion, (a) identify the masculinization, being careful to point out (and not assume) the cultural assumptions about the appropriate/expected roles for masculine versus feminine in the particular culture about which your article is based, and (b) provide an alternative version of your article, in brief-that is, if formal politics in this culture were not masculinized, but instead more gender-neutral, what kinds of things might the article say instead?
