Business Research Design Assignment - Research Project Proposal
In this proposal you should explain why you have chosen this topic, referring to issues such as importance and timeliness, as well as reasons why you personally are particularly interested. You should outline the primary research you propose to undertake. You should then describe the proposed research project structure together with brief details of what is to be included in each section.
You may want to back up your arguments and discussions at various points with references, academic or otherwise. It will probably help to convince the marker that you have a serious interest in the topic and have already spent a substantial amount of time preparing for the research project proposal.
Your subject lecturer may be prepared to discuss this proposal in broad terms with you in advance, but it is not appropriate for subject lecturer to read or comment on the content of the outline before it is handed in, so please do not ask. It is important that you are responsible to produce your proposal outline. Your subject lecturer may give constructive written feedback on your outline. It is your responsibility to arrange such an appointment.
Constructive written feedback is given to help to produce a good final research project. Research project supervisors may be available subsequently to give advice to students if requested. The proposal should be clear, coherent and sensible. Please take note that you are to undertake either quantitative OR qualitative research approach.
To complete this research project proposal, you are required to:
Section 1: Introduction
Select a subject area relevant to your degree programme that you would like to investigate (research).
Write an introduction to your subject area and include a justification for conducting your research (i.e. an explanation of the benefits expected from undertaking the study and its significance).
Identify the main research problem and research questions that stem from the subject area (unanswered questions, or gaps in knowledge, or conflicts in the literature, or suggestion for further work made by authors of published papers/unpublished theses)
Write associated research aim and objectives (specifies the nature and scope of the information which your project will collect).
Write significant of research (specifies the contributions of your project to theory, industry and policy).
Section 2: Literature Review
Conduct a thorough literature review to identify relevant and preferably recent research papers (published in academic journals).
Write an academic underpinning of the topic you are researching, (this is known as the literature review). This should discuss theoretical issues, refer to published research specifically related to your investigation. This section should help you develop and justify your research framework.
Development of hypotheses based on your research questions, if you are conducting a quantitative research.
Development of sound literature review to gain valuable insight in the phenomenon under investigation, if you are conducting a qualitative research.
Section 3: Methodology
An outline of your proposed fieldwork, consisting of a thorough explanation and justification of what you propose to do, indicating clearly:
- Research paradigm
- Research design
- Data collection procedures and ethics
- Sampling strategy (method)
- Measurement / Techniques (Instrument/ Interview questions development)
- Pilot testing strategy
- Data analysis strategy
Section 4: Reference
Create a reference list (APA style referencing).
Length of proposal - A typical research proposal is within the range of 5,000 words EXCLUDING preliminary pages, references and appendices.
