A practical demonstration of your on the job skills, relating to knowledge and application of relevant health and safety acts, regulations and codes of practice is required. The assessor should observe you applying your knowledge in the workplace or, if you are not working the demonstration can take place in a simulated work environment.
You should show that you can:
Identify the health and safety requirements relevant to your workplace
consult with staff with regard to hazards, risk assessment and the development of controls
use analytical and problem solving skills to identify hazards, to examine data and to assess and control risks applying the hierarchy of control
use information technology skills to store and retrieve relevant workplace information and data
establish and maintain an effective health and safety management system that supports the organisation's business systems and practices
identify the need for advice from health and safety experts; then access and use that advice
adapt and communicate policies and procedures that reflect legislative requirements
Negotiate, with your assessor, a time and place either in an actual or simulated workplace to demonstrate these skills.
