Informational Interview Assignment
All students are to complete two informational interviews. The purpose of these interviews is to gain insight on your career destination (see last assignment).
This is an opportunity for you to learn from professionals in your future field and to ask questions that will help you plan to have the most successful future possible. Your informational interview questions should assist you in providing such insight.
Select people to interview that are in a position to help you identify the future steps you need to take or the skills you need to acquire.
(If you did not attend the class overview on information interviews it is HIGHLY encouraged for you to watch the videos on this topic in the online classroom and refer to the information sheets attached to this content.)
Realize that you are not only representing yourself, you are representing every past, current and future student in this informational interview. Prepare and make a good impression.
Interviews may be conducted face-to-face (preferred), via a phone call, face-time, Skype, Google hangout, etc. faculty, staff, advisors, fellow students and related personnelFoundation, Alumni Association, POSSE, Athletics) are *NOT* allowed as interviewees for this assignment.
The expectation is that you talk with individuals outside the university. ?Alumni of the university that do not work for may be candidates.
For each interview, you will submit a report that consists of three parts.
Part 1: Descriptive details about your interviewee including: (1) name, (2) job title, (3) company, (4) phone and/or email address, and (5) where they are located (city & state). (6)Tell me your Career Destination and (7) discuss how you secured the interview, (8)how you knew of the person as well as (9)why this person was expected to enhance your knowledge of your career destination.
Part 2: A summary of the best five questions asked and your interviewee's answers. Number these questions so it is easy to identify how many you are sharing with me. Listen closely to your interviewee and paraphrase the responses. If their answer spurs a follow up question, include that exchange as well.
Part 3: A minimum 2-3 paragraph reflection on what you learned and insights you gained from the interview. What will you do now as a result of this interview? This may also include information that reinforced other sources. This is the most important part of this assignment.
