Assignment:

Select an example where fallacies are being used to sell you a product. These can be in any type of advertising- Internet ads, YouTube, TV commercials, print ads, and billboards to name a few. When you find the advertisement and have identified the specific fallacy in that advertisement answer the following in your discussion:

Identify the fallacy (or fallacies) in the advertisement. This should be the name of the fallacy, not a description of the flawed argument.
Next, apply the fallacy to the advertisement: how is the fallacy being used to persuade you to purchase a product or to think or act in a certain way- in other words, what is the persuasive message?
Identify the intended audience for each advertisement.

In your responses to classmates address the following:

Conclude if this ad is reflective of a stereotype. If so, explain how the audience is being stereotyped. What presuppositions or assumptions are being made?
Do you think the ad is successful? Explain why or why not.
Using your classmates' advertisements as an example, explain how critical thinking can make us better consumers.
