Assignment:

This is a roleplay activity to be conducted in groups of three, with you playing the role of the manager.

A con?ict has arisen within the workplace and you are called on to manage it constructively. Meet with Person A and Person B separately in order to ascertain what has happened between them and act according to the information provided.

Manager

You must listen to each person's perspective equally to identify the details behind the conflict. You are aiming to ?nd out what is important to each person and any common ground for resolution.

You must:

• Avoid judgement
• Respect all points of view
• Be patient, ?exible and diplomatic
• Not identify a 'right' or 'wrong'
• Offer to mediate until 'bullying' is mentioned then refer to the relevant legislation and outside sources of help
• Make a record of the conversations
• Manage the next stage and outline a plan of action.

Person A

You believe that Person B has not been pulling their weight in the workplace. On numerous occasions, you have seen them ignore client requests and pass the work onto another team member. You feel like you are being targeted with this workload and it is causing fatigue and low levels of motivation.

Person B

You believe that Person A is deliberately targeting you in the workplace. It feels like harassment when they constantly ask you to take on more work when you feel like you already do your fair share. Your instincts are telling you this is a form of bullying based on your background and experience. You have not taken any action yet but feel like the tension is becoming unmanageable.
