A behavioural objective is a clear and precise statement about the desired outcome of a behaviour change program. The objective is an integral piece of a behaviour intervention because it provides a clear statement regarding what the behaviour looks like, as well as the criteria necessary to consider a program mastered. This provides consistency for all individuals involved in the implementation of the plan. A behavioural objective should include the following pieces of information:

Identify the individual
Identify the target behaviour
Identify the conditions under which the behaviour is to occur
Identify the criteria for acceptable performance
Review the following case scenarios and make a behavioural objective for each.

Ben is a 6-year-old boy diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who speaks verbally using short sentences (one line). When Ben plays with the other kids in his classroom he will often push peers who are holding a toy he wants or pull the toy directly out of their hands. Ben's teacher wants to introduce the skill of asking (manding) for toys rather than grabbing or pushing.

Paul is a 32-year-old man who lives in a supported living home. Paul is learning to help with his own laundry, and the group home staff would like to teach him how to fold his bath towels so he can more actively participate in part of his daily routines.
