Care and Health Ltd. is a health-care product company which employs about 20 sales employees. It is divided into four sales teams, and each team is led by a sales manager. The main job duties of sales employees include visiting clients and making phone calls to potential clients. The company has been once awarded one of the best employers in town. At the lobby of the company, there is a signboard that says 'Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients'. The employees receive good fringe benefits and their pays are also compatible with other similar jobs in the market.
Though the pandemic has not affected much on the overall business performance of the company, each sales employee is still required to meet their monthly sales target, and no extra bonus is awarded to recognize those who perform well. Some employees perceive that the promotion opportunities are not transparent to them. Rumours also spread around that one sales manager is particularly in favour of one particular sales team member who always receives special privilege from work. The employees seem to be unhappy as evidenced by the high employee turnover rate. The management board starts to worry about the morale of the employees.
In March this year, employees were asked to take turn to work from home due to the surge of Covid-19 cases. While most employees followed the work from home policies, there are a few employees who often 'disappeared' for few hours during working time. Recently, the administrative manager also discovered that there has been an increase in the loss of sample products in the storeroom. She is afraid that some employees could be stealing the samples from the storeroom. All these employee behavioural problems have become a headache to the management.
As a human resource manager, you are requested to prepare a report about these issues and provide recommendations to the management board.
In your report, you should make use of the course concepts and do not answer the question simply in descriptive and anecdotal terms, but present it in the form of critical analysis mainly based on the theories/concepts learned from the course The followings are the guidelines for you to prepare the report. Please state assumptions where necessary.
Questions
1. Introduction (e.g. identify the company's problems, its corporate culture, and the objectives of this report);
2. Analyze the motivational problems based on one appropriate motivational theory learned from the course, and make suggestions on how the employee motivation could be improved;
3. Analyze and provide three suggestions on how the management could strengthen the organizational culture, with justifications;
4. Propose one leadership style with justifications for improving the employees' morale and productivity;
5. Suggest three relevant control measures in controlling the employee behaviour.
