Assignment:

Critical thinking is important because it allows nurses to objectively analyze and interpret situations they face on the job, assess patient's conditions, and make sound decisions. It also allows them to identify potential problems and provide solutions that are tailored to the individual patient's needs. Critical thinking is important for nurses to be able to provide the highest quality care and ensure that outcomes are positively impacted.

Example of positive outcome for patient care when the nurse uses their critical thinking:

  • The nurse can understand the individual needs and preferences of the patient, such as their pain management plan, medication choice, nutrition preferences, etc. and make decisions that best meet those needs.
  • The nurse can differentiate between subtle changes in the patient's condition, such as changes in vital signs, and identify potential issues that then can be further investigated.

Examples of negative outcomes for the patient when the nurse does not use critical thinking:

  • The nurse is unable to identify subtle changes in the patient's condition and fails to take appropriate action.
  • The nurse fails to adequately understand and meet the individual needs and preferences of the patient resulting in inappropriate care that can lead to harm. (i need a respond for this original post on your own word using 75 or more words and reference)
