Gathering Relevant Ideas and Materials
This activity asks you to sort through all the ideas you have generated throughout this module in order to identify some that inspire you to write.
First, collect all your notes from this module-including annotations on the module's texts, charting of all the texts, handouts, personal reflections on the challenges, etc. Then decide how you will organize your review. Will you look at your own reflections first? Your annotations?
As you comb through all this material, highlight or otherwise keep track of the ideas that matter to you the most-ones that maybe get you fired up or really make you pause to think. Pay special attention to examples of cause and effect that you find compelling or meaningful, whether they are from a module text or based on your own experience.
Collect your highlighted ideas in a T-chart like the one below, and be sure to keep track of where those ideas came from. Look for themes in the ideas you write down, and come up with three value statements based on those ideas. These value statements are three different sentences that each explain why you think something does or does not have value. List these sentences below your T-chart. Each of these value statements is a potential thesis, and you will choose from among them in the next module. An example has been provided.
