CIBC 5044 Scoping and Preliminary Design
Task - Site Appraisal Sketch Design
Research and analysis towards the production of a Site Appraisal, Site design layout, and outline Sketch design of a proposed and new small house/living unit.
Learning Outcome 1: "Identify Site opportunities and Constraints"
Learning Outcome 2: "Develop and present a preliminary architectural design from a construction project brief"
Instructions:
1. Investigate the site of your own home or apartment location in terms of the criteria listed below.
Other sites may be suitable pending tutor discussion and confirmation.
2. Assume your site (whether a house or apartment block) is empty and undeveloped for the purposes of the new design proposal.
If you think your home site is unsuitable, please make this known and discuss options with your tutor.
3. Archicad (or other CAD applications) drawings and images are not acceptable. Any cad content will result in a fail of the assessment.
4. Rooms required: living room, kitchen, dining, main bedroom with ensuite, guest bedroom, and bathroom.
Do not add any additional rooms unless you have tutor approval.
5. Your sheets should be predominantly created in full colour, legible, well presented and visually appealing.
6. The content requirements for each presentation sheet are as listed below.
7. The house/unit building design should show some appreciation of efficient room sizes, but this is not the priority for this assignment. If rooms appear massively oversized with no apparent consideration of scale or adequate justification, this will result in lost marks.
You should consider things such as room uses, how activities are accommodated, and how these relate to the outside in terms of space, public and private areas, views, and available daylight.
8. Suggestion: Microsoft Powerpoint is the suggested option for creating your presentation sheets as it is easy to use, light on computer CPU and can easily output your creative work in pdf format.
