Choose a topic presented from PARA314's online content that you feel has the potential to impact ambulance service culture.
Use fractionalisation of work patterns
Discuss why there may be an impact on culture and propose recommendations to address the issue. Examples of topics could include how unionisation affects workforce participation, changing patient demographic requirements, equity in fractured work patterns, employment of international paramedics to meet workforce needs, technological barriers, environmental emergencies etc. Please contact your LIC to discuss the appropriateness of alternate topics.
The format of this assessment task is a letter to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a state ambulance service. Speak to your LIC if you would like to address the letter to an alternate person, for example, AHPRA or The Australasian College of Paramedicine. Use the following points as guidance as to what should be included in the letter:
1) Provide a description of your topic, how the culture has developed and discuss the impact it may have on ambulance service.
2) Identify the risks and impacts that this can have on patient safety, and why the ambulance service is required to address the culture across the organisation.
3) Propose two or three (2 or 3) recommendations relating to your topic for how cultural change could address this issue across the organisation. This must demonstrate how your change meets the needs of all relevant stakeholders (i.e. the organisation, employees, the health system, the community and any other group affected).
