Question 1: Identify potential courses of action-perhaps drop a product which is not profitable and concentrate on another product which is profitable. Note that resource planning at the corpo- rate level involves the allocation of resources between different aspects of a business, and that resource planning at the oper- ational level involves the deployment of resources within an aspect of the business. Operational resource plans should fit into the strategic framework.

Question 2: Gather data about alternatives -collect information relating to two or more products so that a decision as to which product(s) will be produced

Question 3: Select alternative courses of action. A new strategy is likely to require new or different skills and key activities. If these go unrecognised, the resulting mismatch between strategy and structure can lead to implementation and performance prob- lems. Too often, companies' structures follow strategy rather than being part of it.

Question 4: Implement a system of reporting and control so that cost and revenue information can be collected and presented in an effective and efficient way.
