Assignment:
When the belligerent states ceased hostilities in November 1918, many believed, perhaps naively, that it was the "war to ends all wars." The victorious powers met in Paris for several months to negotiate and write peace treaties that many believed would secure the future and provide security and prosperity. Within months the treaties were neglected, ignored, criticized, revised, and abandoned by some and utterly rejected by others. Why?
1) Was the Paris Peace a failure? Why or why not?
2) What are the most important global legacies and consequences of the First World War?
Question 1 must answer WHY not simply HOW the Peace Conference and treaties are considered a success or failure. It might be best to consider the years between 1919 and 1939. You must make an argument defending a thesis, using all legitimate and available resources at your disposal.
For Question 2, you must identify notable global "legacies" and/or "consequences" and demonstrate, with evidence, to answer why they matter and why the First World War was responsible in part or whole. You should consider many different aspects: economic, social, political, etc.
