Question: You are leading a small group and will be discussing the spiritual gifts in your next session. From conversations with the people in this group you know that you have some people that come from a background that denies that the miraculous gifts are for today. These people enjoy attending the church and this group, but you know they will be wary of any discussion on this topic. Others in your group are brand new Christians who have little or no awareness about the gifts, their purpose, and use. A couple of group members come from another church where they have seen numerous abuses of the gifts and are now also wary about any practice or discussion of the gifts. Finally, you have some members that are traditionally Pentecostal in their understandings of the gifts.

Identify important pastoral aspects of the small group you'll want to be aware of and develop a discussion on the gifts of the Holy Spirit that is sound biblically and theologically and which addresses the type of issues or questions each group is likely to raise regarding the gifts.
