Assignment:

Identify a specific illness, the illness I chose is Fibromyalgia. Your selection should be narrow enough to cover in a short assignment such as this. To maintain confidentiality you may make up the person said to have the disease. The illness does not have to be serious or life threatening, it is more important that it has personal meaning.

Yyou should:

1. Discuss your interest in your chosen topic.
2. Describe the illness, including biological factors associated with the disease.
3. What psychosocial/behavioral factors have been associated with the disease? Are there psychosocial factors that influence the likelihood of developing the disease or its course or severity? Do they influence recovery?
4. Describe treatment approaches.
5. Discuss your reactions to your sources of information--Were they helpful? Were they credible? Did they provide conflicting information?
6. Discuss how the information you gathered has affected you. Were you surprised by anything you learned? Are there behavioral or social factors that you think could be modified by the person with the illness to aid symptoms or recovery? What would you recommend?
