This assignment requires you to create and submit both a resume´ and a cover letter that could be used to apply to a job of your choice. Use Chapter 10 and Module 3 as guides as you create your resume´ and cover letter. Please note that it will not be considered plagiarism for you to adapt your existing personal resume´ for this assignment, as it is your information. However, be mindful that copying lists of duties from online sources and pasting those onto your resume´ will be considered plagiarism. Cover letters will also be scanned for plagiarism.
First, select a target job description. This may involve searching company websites for job postings, scanning job sites, or learning about job opportunities by word of mouth. Try to find a job that matches your interests and goals. You must include a description of the job you are "applying" for, and submit it, along with your resume´ and cover letter. Copy and paste the job description onto a word doc. The job description should not be written in your own words. This means you will be uploading three files to the assignment dropbox: job description, resume´, cover letter. Please name each file appropriately for ease of grading.
Second, prepare your resume´. Follow the guidelines for creating a resume´ which are outlined in Chapter 10, as well as Module 3: Writing for Employment. You should include the following sections in your resume:
• Contact Information: name, address, telephone number (you can make up a fake address and phone number if you do not want to share this information!)
• Objective: For example, Bookseller at Chapters or Personal trainer at Gold's Gym
• Summary of Qualifications: What makes you qualified for the job? What previous experience do you have in related fields?
• Education: degree or diploma (high school), date of graduation, and institution; also include your program of study at College
• Work Experience: itemize jobs, describe your experience, include dates of employment, emphasize the skills used in these jobs
Please feel free to include additional information if necessary. Try to limit your resume´ to one page. However, you will not be penalized if you use two pages.
Third, write a cover letter to submit (with your resume) to your potential employer. Again, use the cover letters illustrated in Chapter 10 of your textbook as models for formatting your letter, or the format presented in Module 3, but do not feel constricted to using these forms exactly. Your cover letter should include the following sections:
• Opening: address the letter to the potential employer; identify how you found out about the job or why you are applying; describe your interest in the position/company
• Body: describe how you would be a good fit for the job; describe your strengths and relevant experience; refer to your resume´ for examples
• Closing: offer to call or include a number for your potential employer to get a hold of you; request an interview or more communication
