Question: A 50-year-old man is living on the streets. At night, he frequents the men's shelter at the local church. He states that he has a degree in political science with a doctorate in higher education and was at one time a professor at a university out of state. Ten years ago, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is an alcoholic. He receives Social Security and can work odd jobs, but has periods of anxiety and depression. He spent some time as an inpatient and says, "I was fine when I was discharged, but now I can't manage to take care of myself."
