Assignment: Did the student good job answering the question? What did they do good what can they improve on?

Question: Imagine you're doing field research. Identify the ethical issues involved in doing qualitative field research in your particular setting (provide examples).

Case Study: Students Response: When doing field research on a community college campus and online, I feel that some ethical issues that may arise are confidentiality and voluntary participation, as well as emotionally taxing on the researcher as the textbook says (10.2). Using some examples of what could possibly occur when researching, when working on a college campus using a random sample or asking for participants in certain classrooms, if a researcher were to ask certain students to fill out their form either by choice or because they were "chosen using a sampling frame", the participant should have all the right to say no. This, of course, should be perfectly fine but in turning down participation can risk the researcher having to redo their selection method or find another random participant, which might also deny answering, making the process much longer than necessary. This long process can be another reason for emotional tax on the researcher, as well as another example of the researcher having to ensure their sample is fully random and unbiased before sending their surveys to students on campus, but having to talk to each student themselves about filling out the form seeing as they'll be the only one collecting data. Regarding confidentiality, if the researcher were to send their surveys via student emails in an attempt to do a random sample from a pool of students, the researcher can claim to keep their information anonymous but the researcher themself had to find their email and names before sending the survey, therefore knowing who sent what and possibly skewing the data (or, in another example, accidentally talking directly about a student's response or addressing a student in their research).
