Case Study: You are leading a team of engineers who are developing a new water recycling system for a lunar orbiting spacecraft. This system will reduce the need for resupplying fresh water to the spacecraft, which saves hundreds of thousands of dollars in launch costs. The system operates by recovering latent moisture in the internal atmosphere as well as by recycling urine and gray water from crew usage. The system will also receive a small amount of make-up water from the carbon dioxide recovery system.

The radiation analysis indicated that the failure of the component was the result of a design feature. One of your team members has determined that a small change to the design would result in a very high probability that the component will pass the radiation harness test.
