Unit 1
Your manager for your chosen company has asked you to create the project management plan in Project 2010. You determined the scope, work packages, and tasks for those work packages in the Discussion Board task this week. For your chosen project, create a file in Project 2010 that includes the work breakdown structure (WBS). Include the following:
• The project deliverable at the highest level
• At least 5 work packages, with at least 2 levels below the overall project deliverable
• Major project tasks
• Note: In Project, you may have to enter the tasks first. You can then use the WBS button to create a WBS.
Submit your file as a Project document, as a PDF, or in a format provided by your instructor.
Unit 2
Use your Unit 2 Discussion Board responses to help you determine the tasks and subtasks. Once you have identified tasks as needed for your chosen (construction or IT) project, complete the following:
• Add any additional tasks and subtasks that will help you to create work packages to your Project 2010 document you used in Unit 1. Be sure to change the file name to "Week 2."
• Place the tasks in the order in which they will be performed in the project.
• Approximate the durations for the tasks, and add start and end dates for the tasks.
• Add project key milestones to your Project file.
• Add "Predecessor" or "Successor" to the project tasks that you add to you Project file.
• Generate a Gantt chart, network diagram, and milestone chart for your project.
• Submit your file as a Project document, as a PDF, or in a format provided by your instructor. If you submit your file as a PDF, be sure to create the Gantt chart, network diagram, and milestone chart as separate PDF files.
Unit 3
Now that you understand project scope of work, estimated project schedule, and key milestones, it is time to come up with project resources, budget estimation, and different responsibilities for the resources. Based on the same project from Unit 2, using MS Project, add project resources into the Project file. The estimated budget for different resources should be added to the Project file as well.
• Identify different project resources (costs, materials, work) in the Project file.
• Assign human resources to the tasks in your chosen project. Use job titles and roles for the resources rather than names. For example, potential human resources could be programmers, electricians, and carpenters.
o If you are using the IT project scenario, you will need workers to add the software to the computers. You will also need people to perform all of the other tasks in the project.
o If you are using the construction project scenario, you will need workers to frame the building. Other workers will conduct the other tasks.
• When you have determined all of the resources needed for the tasks, assign these resources (costs, materials, work) to all of the tasks in your project.
• Roll over the overall project budget estimation based on individual costs for different tasks in the MS Project file.
• Create a RASCI (responsible, accountable, supportive, consulted, and informed) matrix based on different project resources in a Word or Excel file.
Unit 4
Submit the revised Key Assignment saved as a Unit 3 file in the file type noted by your instructor.
Based on the Unit 3 IP, identify potential project risks, analyze and evaluate project risks, and come up with a project risk matrix. Update your MS Project file to adjust the tasks and schedules based on the project risks.
• Some common risks include staffing, schedule, and budget.
• Identify major project risks, and analyze and evaluate the risks based on probabilities and impacts.
• Come up with a risk management strategy
• Put all of the risk management information in a risk matrix.
• Adjust any project schedule in the MS Project file based on project risks.
Submit the revised MS Project file in Project format or PDF format and a Word file for the risk matrix. Save the files as Unit 4 files.
Final Project
Part 1
Submit your final Project plan from Weeks 1 through 4, making any necessary changes based on feedback from your instructor and peers.
The plan should include the following:
• A work breakdown structure with at least 3 levels
• A project schedule with at least 3 phases and at least 9 tasks
• At least 2 milestones
• People and other resources assigned to each of the tasks
• Project's overall budget
• Adjusted project tasks, schedules, and costs based on potential project risks
The format should be a Project file, PDF, or other format noted by the instructor.
Besides the Project plan, make any necessary changes for your RASCI matrix and risk matrix based on feedback from your instructor and peers. Submit your updated RASCI matrix and risk matrix in a Word or Excel file.
Part 2
Choose 1 of the visual reports in Project, and prepare a memo in Word (using memo format) to your manager that describes a summary of the project management plan. Within this memo, include the following items:
• A discussion of the project's deliverable and a listing of the work packages in the project
• A listing of the major tasks needed to complete the project's deliverable based on the work breakdown structure
• A list of the project's milestones
• The human resources and other resources needed for the project with a listing of the roles and responsibilities
• The overall project budget estimation
• The major project risks and risk management strategies
• A discussion of the visual report you chose, noting the importance of this report in describing the project
• Any APA citations and references necessary
