Question: Various forms of media (e.g., films, books, magazines, popular music, television, billboards, and radio) are very powerful vehicles of communicating information, both positive and negative. In addition, the media creates and sustains, as well as reflects cultural norms and ideology. Embedded in many of these norms are implicit and explicit societal expectations of particular social identity groups in the United States, leading to the internalization of societal oppression in groups and individuals.

Choose a specific social group (e.g., people of color, minorities, ethnic groups, women, gays and lesbians, people with disabilities) and identify three different forms of media (e.g. novels, films, radio programs, television, adolescent magazines, billboards, music videos, newspapers, children's books) that include people from that social group.

Using the template provided, rate the examples as positive, negative, or both and identify patterns, as well as how these portrayals affect attitudes and beliefs from those outside of the social group. Important: Include at least five substantive bullet points for each example.
