Case Study

Twenty-one-year-old female professional violinist, Bethany, was diagnosed with insulin dependent Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus nine months ago. Due to her irregular working hours, she is struggling to stabilise her blood glucose level (BGL). She has also been feeling very low and is already 'fed up' with having a chronic condition. Beth enjoys playing competitive netball but recently tore her meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Initial reparative surgery was not successful and due to ongoing pain in her knee and loss of function, she now requires a total knee reconstruction and is on the waiting list. Beth mobilises with the assistance of a splint and at times a walking stick.
