Health Promotion Group Project
Purpose:
The role of the nurse generalist includes providing patient education on health promotion topics in alignment with the Health People 2030 goals. This assignment will identify common health promotion topics and highlight areas which can be used in the patient's plan of care. The Leading Health Indicators (LHI) are Healthy People 2030 Objectives to communicate important high-priority health issues (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2017).
Directions:
Use the Discussion Board titled Sign Up for Health Promotion Project to list your groups members and topic selected.
A- Students will sign up for a health promotion topic from the following Leading Health Indicators (LHI) choices: 2/14/23
• Social Determinants of Health -Education access and quality
• Social Determinants of Health- Health care access and quality
• Pregnancy and Child Birth
• Respiratory diseases
• Health Information Technology
• Addiction
• Overweight and Obesity
• Dementia (Chosen Topic)
• Mental Health and Mental disorders
• Environmental Health
• People with disabilities
• Sexually Transmitted Infections
In groups of 3-4, students will create a minimum of a ten slide (maximum of fifteen slide) health promotion power point presentation related to patient education on their chosen topic. Each student will present portions of the presentation by recording their slide(s) presentation as a group in Zoom.
*Each group member will create their own power point presentation slides.
*One group member will be responsible for compiling the individual slides into one power point presentation. This group member will upload the slides into the Zoom Recording room.
*Each group will plan a date and time to meet in the Zoom recording room to record the presentation simultaneously. See how-to instructions in the assignment link.
*The group will designate one group member who will post the completed presentation with all group members recorded presentation in the Discussion Board by the due date (this may be a group member who does not present an introductory or conclusion slide). Post the link to the completed power point presentation in the designated Discussion Board thread. See how-to instructions in the assignment link.
*Each student will post one response to another assigned group with the information below:
1. What was learned from the groups presentation
2. One additional teaching point (with citation and reference in APA)
3. How you will use this information in nursing practice
Required components of the presentation:
a. Introductory and Conclusion slide (may be separate group members)
b. Three patient learning objectives which are specific, measurable, realistic and attainable (What do you want the reader to learn)
c. Explanation of the patients risks related to the topic-one group member.
d. Short explanation of at least one potential negative consequence if patient's do not engage in the suggested health promotion activities-one group member.
e. At least five teaching points related to the health promotion topic. -equally divided among group members
f. Equal group member contribution
g. All group members must record their own slides.
h. Each group member should prepare and present an equal number of slides
i. All group members are responsible for making sure the presentation is submitted on time and is without errors.
j. Each group will only submit one presentation that is an equal collaboration and effort of all group members.
Reference list on final slide with matching citations throughout. The reference list must contain at least four sources. At least one must be an article from a nursing journal. All references must be less than five years old. References must be cited in APA format.
