Homework: Faculty Challenges
The purpose of this homework is to identify classroom management challenges teachers face, to review research related to these challenges, and propose research-based solutions. Your paper should relate to a specific area of education, such as undergraduate college, elementary school, graduate school, high school, middle school, or adult education.
I. Identify three faculty challenges related to classroom management for your particular area of interest in your introduction:
1. Students disrupting class
2. Disorganized classroom
3. Poor understanding and follow-through of administrative procedures
4. Students dominating class discussion
5. Students' lack of participation
6. Teachers and students wasting academic learning time
7. Lack of creating a cohesive learning community
8. Absence of cooperation from parents
9. Reduced support and cooperation from administration
10. Students cutting classes
11. Student academic integrity issues
12. Students challenging teachers' authority or grading
13. Student safety
14. Teacher safety
II. Once you have identified the challenges you will address in your paper, conduct research on each and find three resources per challenge to support your writing. Based on your research:
1. Write a short description of each challenge
2. Include ideas about what to do to improve or solve the challenges
3. Include any ethical or reflective decisions or choices that would need to be made for the solution to be successful.
For example, if you decide to discuss reduced administrative support, you will have an overview section with a description of the issue, some main points for consideration, your analysis of the problem with potential solutions, and any ethical or reflective decisions or implications that cause, overcome, or help sustain solutions to the problem.
III. You should have a total of nine references, three for each issue.
IV. This paper should be no more than 10 pages total, excluding references and title page.
V. Make sure your paper demonstrates analysis of the issues and creative problem solving or implications applied to proposed solutions.
