Canadian Leaders Assignment
Your task is to consolidate your learning by researching and presenting on a successful BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Colour) Canadian leader. This leader can be a business leader, a political leader, a non-profit leader, or other organizational leader in Canada. Your goal is to educate others about this leader - their background, their accomplishments, etc., and make connections to leadership theories and styles, as explored throughout this activity.
Once you have selected your Canadian leader, you can start to work on the task:
Step 1 - Your research
Conduct appropriate research on your leader. Make sure you are focusing on, and reporting on, the following:
1. The leader's background - where are they from, how did they grow up, what is their educational background?
2. What are their accomplishments and successes?
3. What is their leadership style?
- Identify their classical leadership style. Explain your selection and provide evidence.
- Is this leader transactional or transformational? Explain by providing evidence.
- What has made them a successful leader?
- Does this leader possess any servant leadership qualities? How so?
- Any other possible connections you can make to your leadership learning from this activity.
4. Other interesting facts or information about your leader. (Eg. Impacts related to Equity, Anti-Bias, Anti Black Racism, Anti-Racism, Anti-Bias, Discrimination, Systemic Discrimination, etc)
5. Can you find an interesting video or speech where your leader is demonstrating their leadership qualities? Include the link. (Preferred to find a video that addresses Equity, Anti-Black Racism, Anti-Racism, Anti-Bias, Discrimination, Systemic Discrimination, etc)
6. Make sure you properly cite and source your references.
Step 2 - Present your findings
There are many acceptable ways to present and organize your research and findings for this task. You might want to create this in a formal business report, an electronic presentation, or Infographic. Make sure you include all the important pieces and sections as outlined in Step 1.
